The Design:
This nest box incorporates all the most desirable features to attract Bluebirds. Horizontal entry hole discourages sparrows from entering & killing the bluebirds. The front of the box opens easily to monitor eggs & nestlings. The tray holds wood shavings & is not permanently attached to the the inside of the box.
Siting & Mounting

Bluebird nest box should be mounted on steel or wood post

Post selection – 1” Steel conduit U-Bolts or 3” Wooden Post

Tighten so that box will not twist on the post

Make sure that your post is 8' long and sink 2' into the ground

Place nesting box approximately 6' from ground

Use some type of excluder to deter snakes, cats & other predators from gaining access to inside of the box

Bluebirds prefer open terrain & if making a bluebird trail, space nest boxes 100' apart

Bluebirds also are tolerant to humans so inspection of the nest box does not disturb the birds

Fill nesting block with sawdust to start the nesting process
